Why union workers should despise Obamacare

Union leaders are objecting to the Obama faction’s proposed tax on the health benefits packages of certain workers. “The 40 percent tax would fall on employer health plans worth more than $8,500 for an individual or $23,000 for a family. Although Obama terms them ‘Cadillac’ plans, union leaders say numerous working-class Americans who’ve negotiated good benefits in exchange for lesser pay would be hurt.” It’s no wonder union leaders object to a move that obviously undermines hard-fought gains by the workers they are supposed to represent. The wonder is that union members don’t smell the same rat in the whole move toward a government takeover of the health sector.

The push for so-called health-care reform has made unlikely bedfellows of Obama faction unions like SEIU and giant corporations like Wal-Mart. What explains the corporate support for the move toward socialism? Maybe it’s the fact that the ultimate result will shift the cost of health insurance from the corporate books onto the government’s ledger. Instead of being paid for from the gross income of the corporations, it will be paid for with tax dollars, with a hefty share coming from the pockets of workers who now enjoy its value as an untaxed component of their overall remuneration.

Who’s getting richer under the Obama regime? Find out in Tim Carney’s new book, “Obamanomics: How Barack Obama Is Bankrupting You and Enriching His Wall Street Friends, Corporate Lobbyists, and Union Bosses”

It’s not hard to see why the corporate managers welcome this prospect. But the same union bosses who protest the Obama administration’s proposed tax on some workers have enthusiastically promoted the push for a government takeover that will make workers pay for something they now receive as untaxed value for their labor. Maybe the real reason the union bosses are objecting to the tax proposal is that it may start some workers to thinking about the tax implications of the government takeover. They’ll realize that, in exchange for short-term political payoffs, the union bosses are betraying the long-term economic interests of the workers whose remuneration they should be striving to protect.

Will this counterproductive result lead rank-and-file union members to examine more closely the socialist Kool-Aid the Obama faction, with an indispensable political assist from their lap dogs in union leadership, is forcing down America’s throat? Will it lead them to consider the sad loss of union independence that has characteristically resulted from the transition to socialism whenever it takes place?

After the government takeover, instead of negotiating their benefits package with corporate managers in a situation where their solidarity lets them negotiate from a position of relative strength, they will have to deal with a legislative process that is already being revamped to allow party bosses to run roughshod over the views of the people. At present, workers can achieve advances through a bargaining process that forces union leaders to be sensitive to the need to maintain support from the rank and file. Under the socialist regime, they will face a closed door political process that allows political leaders to offer union leaders a separate peace assuring their personal fortunes and power as long as they shill for whatever party line the political bosses dictate.

The American union movement, unlike those in Europe, resisted the false temptation of socialism precisely because many Americans instinctively understood that free and independent unions are unlikely to survive once people have been lured into dependence on government bureaucrats and political bosses for their access to basic necessities like housing and health care

. They realized that socialist control remakes the whole nation in the image of the “company town,” with party bosses replacing corporate bosses as the dictators of the workers’ fate. When corporate bosses controlled the apparatus of law enforcement and legislation, they could make life awfully hard for workers trying to organize to get a fair shake. Once the workers learned to use the political process effectively, they acted to thwart this abuse of government power. But when the controlling bosses are the politicians and bureaucrats, how will workers get around their hold on power? The fate of independent unions under communist and national socialist rule doesn’t suggest very promising prospects.

Free unions can’t hope to survive except in a free society. If America’s unionized workers continue to follow self-serving union leaders down a path toward government-controlled dependency, their future is in doubt. I pray they will think this through before it is too late.

“To avoid domestic tyranny, the people must be armed to stand upon [their] own Defense; which if [they] are enabled to do, [they] shall never be put upon it, but [their] Swords may grow rusty in [their] hands; for that Nation is surest to live in Peace, that is most capable of making War; and a Man that hath a Sword by his side, shall have least occasion to make use of it.”

~ John Trenchard (1662–1723)

One of the most amazing scientific discoveries in my lifetime occurred at approximately 10,500 feet above sea level on the Tisenjoch pass, in the Ötzal Alps of Northern Italy. Sheltered for millennia from the moving ice of a glacier in a secluded crevice a 5000-year-old human body was preserved, finally to be discovered by a two German hikers in September 1991.

This ancient male was soon named Ötzi, in honor of where he was found, and quickly gave modern man some amazing insights into the lives of the early Europeans.

Amongst all the information that Ötzi shared with modern man, I was most impressed with how well armed an individual from 3300 BC would be.

The tools Ötzi needed for his survival were a yew longbow, a quiver made of chamois hide containing fourteen arrows, a copper axe and a woven sheath which housed a flint bladed dagger.

These tools took on a whole new significance, for me, when it was disclosed that Ötzi had been in a fight and probably was killed by an arrow, which had penetrated his heavy fur coat and left shoulder blade. That deadly arrow may have lacerated the brachial artery aiding, if not causing, Ötzi to bleed to death.

Of course, we will never know what really transpired during the last days of Ötzi’s life and no one will ever be able to state categorically what caused his death. One thing, however, can be safely stated, in 5000 years, even given the technological advancements of a modern society, mankind still has a need to be prepared to defend himself, his family and his way of life.

Certainly, the rhetoric of an enlightened society groveling at the Federal government’s feet is beginning to wear more than a little thin with the American public. This is evident when considering the annual report of NICS background checks, which are done by the FBI for all pending firearm sales. The following graph for the years 1999 through December 2009 illustrates how many American’s attitude seems to have changed.

The conventional wisdom has attributed the rise in firearm sales to the present Administration under the dictum: “Obama, Gun salesman of the year.”

To say that the current political atmosphere has nothing to do with firearms sales would be ludicrous, at best. There are, however, more to the statistics than first meets the eyes. On closer inspection the NICS data shows the rise of firearms sales beginning in September 2005 and really taking hold in December of the same year.

What accounts for this sudden rise in firearm interest can only be attributed to the events following the destruction of New Orleans and the surrounding areas in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in late August 2005.

Who wasn’t horrified when we learned of police officers going door-to-door through New Orleans neighborhoods forcing the residents into the streets, or their beating of an elderly woman then handcuffing her for having a handgun? Next we discovered that not only were New Orleans officers responsible for the theft of legally owned firearms but also of personal wealth.

This would account for the increase in weapon sales during the month of September which was 6.46% greater than September of 2004 and 29% greater that July 2005.

The criminal events occurring in New Orleans, along with the continuing failure of the federal apparatus, being further empowered by the December renewal of the PATRIOT Act with its increase in surveillance and investigative powers was, to many, the perfect environment for pushing the United States into a verging police state.

Not surprisingly firearm sales increased in December 2005 over the previous December by almost 8% and in January 2006 over January 2005 by 11.57%.

Making no effort to alleviate the public concerns, the Federal government treated us to two acts in September 2006, the John Warner Defense Authorization Act and the Military Commissions Act.

The latter act effectively gave the President of the United States the power to detain anyone – U.S. citizen or foreign nationals – indefinitely. It also stripped anyone detained of the right to habeas corpus. The New York Times says of this act: “Rather than reining in the formidable presidential powers…the law gives some of those powers a solid statutory foundation.”

The John Warner Defense Authorization Act continued to anger and to arouse the fears of many with its provision to legitimize martial law (section 1076) – in the event of a “natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident or other condition in which the President determines that domestic violence has occurred to the extent that state officials cannot maintain public order.”

It was during the debate over these two bills that gun sales in 2006 began to rise dramatically over 2005 as the increases in May, June, July, August, and September (below) show. The roused fears of the American public didn’t abate as rapidly as in previous years causing sales to stay high with increases in October, and November before tapering off in December, only to resume in January 2007.

The American people knew something was amiss even in 2007. As government and many private sector economists overlooked or ignored the deflating housing bubble along with the consequences of declining home values, I believe, there was a growing body of Americans who realized the world’s financial system was in free fall and it was going to take America’s banking system with it.

As if to push Americans to the brink, either of desperation or fury, then President Bush, on May 9, 2007, signed what many felt was the ultimate betrayal of the American principle. That abandonment came in the form of the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive which was either unseen or disregarded by the media, given no examination by Congress, but endowed the president of the United States with extensive dictatorial powers with the emergence of a yet to be defined, “catastrophic event.”

Predictably, people’s suspicions concerning a possible declaration of martial law from the year before, the threat of a failing economy and now the presidential office being crowned with such repugnant monocratic powers was enough to send weapon sales through the roof.

Perhaps it was because of the deepening recession, because it was an election year, or because there really was a collective hope that there would be a change for the better, the American conscience, while still showing a comparatively high degree of anxiety in early in 2008, seems to have taken a “let’s wait and see attitude.”

The revelation, in February 2008, that the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security had deputized private contractors and given them unprecedented authority, including “shoot to kill” authorization, certainly wasn’t calming news.

Sales in July of 2008 indicate that many Americans were not buying Justice Scalia’s opinion, expressed in the wake of the June 27, 2008 Heller decision that; “Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited.” Nor was there any confidence generated by Obama supporters who in print were promising “he (Obama) believes the Second Amendment confers an individual right to own a gun,” then adding, “[A]lthough he doesn’t think it protects ‘gang bangers.’” I remember wondering at the time how long it would be before a large segment of the American public would suddenly be declared “terrorists.”

In spite of the bank failures and severe downturn in the economy, American’s apprehension concerning the future began fully manifesting itself in October. The passage of H.R. 1424 enacting the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 creating a $700 billion T.A.R.P. fund may have been part of catalyst, but the pot boiled over in November with the “election” of Obama.

The new administration, which had been presented in 2008 as a sweet smelling rose, soon had the aroma of a sun-baked “honey pot.”

In rapid succession America was strapped with another $787 billion of debt, the Federal government’s takeover of major financial institutions, then two automotive manufactures. Suddenly we had more “czars” than the Russian empire had throughout its history and a continuing rise in unemployment portending an economic crisis greater than that of the 1930’s.

Then we learned that anyone who understood or favored the principles espoused in the US Constitution or Declaration of Independence, believed in God and went to church, belonged to or supported the Constitution Party or Ron Paul, owned guns, disagreed with the Obama administration and a plethora of other no-no’s, was now deemed by DHS as “right-wing extremists” and “potential terrorists.” (I guess “gang bangers” is just a colloquial euphemism.)

In early November 2008 the Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence sensed that with a Democrat-controlled congress and a Democrat president, the time was ripe for a series of new gun laws. Publishing a 30-page pamphlet entitled “Common Sense Gun Laws Won, The NRA Lost, & What It Means” they laid out, on page 7, the Obama agenda concerning firearms. Under a box entitled “Obama’s Long Record Of Supporting Reasonable Gun Laws” we find Obama:

  1. “Opposed restrictions on ATF, including barring ATF from disclosing crime gun data (the ‘Tiahrt Amendment’).”
  2. “Supported requiring background checks for gun sales at gun shows (closing the ‘gun show loophole’).”
  3. “Supported establishing a national database that would capture and record imprints left by bullets, and making gun locks mandatory.”
  4. “Supported a ban on semiautomatic military-style assault weapons.”
  5. “Supported preventing gun trafficking by limiting handgun purchases to one a month.”
  6. “Supported microstamping (sic) of ammunition to allow law enforcement to trace cartridges left at crime scenes.”
  7. “Supported child-proofing of handguns.”

The bloom however, was off the bud; Obama et al. had not ingratiated themselves with many in the country and few were convinced of the present administration’s or the Federal government’s benign intent towards firearm ownership. Thankfully not just individual Americans but states and their legislatures were also seeing the light.

The plundering of the economy and Constitutional rights, which started under the Bush administration, was accelerated by the Obama administration and was driving America to ruin. In March two top IMF officials said that the U.S. had already become a third-world banana republic.

State legislatures now moved to stem the tide with state resolutions, state amendments or firearm freedom acts, putting the Federal government on notice that the tenth amendment to the Constitution was still valid.

Even so America’s skepticism remained evident. The numbers of weapon checks preformed by the FBI continued to rise. Even with shortages in ammunition 14,033,824 firearms were sold in 2009, an increase over 2008 of 9.44% and over 2005 by a whooping 36.20%.

To some it is finally becoming obvious that this is still a very dangerous world. Being armed means the same thing now as it did 5000 years ago. Modern man; meet Ötzi. Now learn to watch your back!

Washington, DC — January 14, 2010

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has obtained internal documents from NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) related to a controversy that erupted in 2007 when Canadian blogger Stephen McIntyre exposed an error in NASA’s handling of raw temperature data from 2000-2006 that exaggerated the reported rise in temperature readings in the United States. According to multiple press reports, when NASA corrected the error, the new data apparently caused a reshuffling of NASA’s rankings for the hottest years on record in the United States, with 1934 replacing 1998 at the top of the list.

These new documents, obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), include internal GISS email correspondence as NASA scientists attempted to deal with the media firestorm resulting from the controversy. In one exchange GISS head James Hansen tells a reporter from Bloomberg that NASA had not previously published rankings with 1998 atop the list as the hottest year on record in the 20th century.

Email from Demian McLean, Bloomberg to Jim Hansen, August 14, 2007: “The U.S. figures showed 1998 as the warmest year. Nevertheless, NASA has indeed newly ranked 1934 as the warmest year…”

Email Response from James Hansen to Demian McLean, August 14, 2007: “…We have not changed ranking of warmest year in the U.S. As you will see in our 2001 paper we found 1934 slightly warmer, by an insignificant hair over 1998. We still find that result. The flaw affected temperatures only after 2000, not 1998 and 1934.”

Email from NASA Scientist Makiko Sato to James Hansen, August 14, 2007: “I am sure I had 1998 warmer at least once on my own temperature web page…” (Email includes temperature chart dated January 1, 2007.)

(This issue also crops up in email communications with New York Times reporter Andrew Revkin a little over a week later.)

According to the NASA email, NASA’s incorrect temperature readings resulted from a “flaw” in a computer program used to update annual temperature data.

Hansen, clearly frustrated by the attention paid to the NASA error, labeled McIntyre a “pest” and suggests those who disagree with his global warming theories “should be ready to crawl under a rock by now.” Hansen also suggests that those calling attention to the climate data error did not have a “light on upstairs.”

“This email traffic ought to be embarrassing for NASA. Given the recent Climategate scandal, NASA has an obligation to be completely transparent with its handling of temperature data. Instead of insulting those who point out their mistakes, NASA scientists should engage the public in an open, professional and honest manner,” stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

Duty is the sublimest word in the language. You can never do more than your duty. You should never wish to do less

Remembering Robert E. Lee

By Calvin E. Johnson Jr.  Saturday, January 16, 2010

image“Duty is the sublimest word in the language. You can never do more than your duty. You should never wish to do less.”—Robert E. Lee

Did you know that Paul Revere, Betsy Ross, Martin Luther King and Robert E. Lee were born during the month of January? History can be great fun when parents and grandparents share stories about the past with their children making the study of American history a ‘Family Affair.’

Tuesday, January 19, 2010, is the 203rd birthday of Robert E. Lee, whose memory is still dear in the hearts of many Americans and people throughout God’s good earth.

During Robert E. Lee’s 100th birthday in 1907, Charles Francis Adams, Jr., a former Union Army Commander and grandson of United States President John Quincy Adams, spoke in tribute to Robert E. Lee at Washington and Lee College’s Lee Chapel in Lexington, Virginia. His speech was printed in both Northern and Southern newspapers and is said to had lifted Lee to a renewed respect among the American people.

Robert E. Lee-Stonewall Jackson Day events are planned for Saturday, January 16, 2010, in Lexington, Virginia that includes a Memorial at Lee Chapel featuring Guest Speaker Pastor John Weaver, Past Chaplain in Chief of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. For additional information go to:

Many more events are planned for Lee’s birthday that includes:

The United Daughters of the Confederacy’s annual Robert E. Lee birthday commemoration held in front of Lee’s statue which is in the Crypt area of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. See upcoming events at: and

The Sons of Confederate Veterans 23rd Annual Robert E. Lee birthday celebration in Milledgeville, Ga. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, beginning with a 10:45 a.m. march from the old governor’s mansion to the one time capitol building of Georgia. See details at:

Do you remember when….

On August 5, 1975, 110 years after Gen. Lee’s application, President Gerald Ford signed Joint Resolution 23, restoring the long overdue full rights of citizenship to Gen. Robert E. Lee. Read more at:

Who was Robert E. Lee?

Robert E. Lee was born on Monday Jan. 19, 1807, at ‘Stratford’ in Westmoreland County, Virginia. The winter was cold and the fireplaces were little help for Robert’s mother, Ann Hill (Carter) Lee.

Ann Lee named her son ‘Robert Edward’ after two of her brothers.

Robert E. Lee undoubtedly acquired his love of country from those who lived during the American Revolution. His Father, ‘Light Horse’ Harry was a Revolutionary War Hero, served three terms as Governor of Virginia and was elected to the United States House of Representatives. Two members of his family also signed the Declaration of Independence.

Lee was educated at the schools of Alexandria, Va., and he received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1825. He graduated in 1829, second in his class and without a single demerit.

Robert E. Lee’s first assignment was to Cockspur Island, Georgia, to supervise the construction of Fort Pulaski.

While serving as 2nd Lieutenant of Engineers at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Lee wed Mary Ann Randolph Custis. Mary was the daughter of George Washington Parke Custis, the Grandson of Martha Washington and adopted son of George Washington.

Mary was an only child; therefore, she inherited Arlington House, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., where she and Robert E. Lee raised seven children.

In 1836, Lee was appointed to first Lieutenant. In 1838, with the rank of Captain, Robert E. Lee fought in the War with Mexicoand was wounded at the Battle of Chapultepec.

Lee was appointed Superintendent of the United States Military Academy in 1852.

General Winfield Scott offered Robert E. Lee command of the Union Army in 1861, but he refused. He said, “I cannot raise my hand against my birthplace, my home, my children.”

Lee served as adviser to President Jefferson Davis, and then on June 1, 1862, commanded the legendary Army of Northern Virginia.

After four terrible years of death and destruction, Gen. Robert E. Lee met Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia and ended their battles.

Lee was called Marse Robert, Uncle Robert and Marble Man.

In October 1865, Lee was offered and accepted the presidency of troubled Washington College in Lexington, Virginia. The school was later renamed Washington and Lee College in his honor.

Robert E. Lee died of a heart attack at 9:30 AM on the morning of October 12, 1870, at the college and is buried at Lee Chapel with his family and near his favorite horse, Traveller.

Booker T. Washington, America’s great Black-American Educator wrote in 1910, “The first white people in America, certainly the first in the South to exhibit their interest in the reaching of the Negro and saving his soul through the medium of the Sunday-school were Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.”

Let’s not forget those who made our nation great!

The worldwide debut of the Communitarians

Posted: 01/16/2010 by thecajunfreak in 2011

By Judi McLeod  Friday, January 15, 2010

It’s 2010 and you are already redefined in a new word.  You are now,  as far your political masters are concerned,  a “communitarian”.

While you were grappling to survive the recession, the global ID communitarian has replaced the term `global citizen’.

Labelled like a jam or jelly jar, “the new you” is the communitarian, the name that is being forced on all members of human society.

Notice how the name communitarian sounds benign?  The Marxist dialectic has always relied on innocuous sounding names in forging its agenda forward.

In the Marxist lexicon you will never hear the pseudonym for the name communitarian: serf.

Americans being pushed into One World Government by their own president will recognize communitarianism in AmeriCorps, more correctly defined as forced voluntarism.

In the old days communitarism was the communes of the Hippies.  The hippies are now Obama czars and it’s communitarism.

The disciples of communitarism are folk who the Marxists count on as popular crowd pleasers.

Disciple Howard Dean declares that the debate between Capitalism and Socialism is over and explains that “We are going to have both”.  Dean unabashedly told a roomful of people in an April 2009 video of a talk he gave in Paris that the synthesis between capitalism and socialism is called “communitarism”.

This is what communitarism disciple former U.S. President Bill Clinton told crowds in two eastern Canadian provinces last year.  There has to be more public involvement in solving the world’s problems.

“Clinton spoke first on Thursday in St. John’s, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, and coined his own term—communitarianism—for personal involvement, the city’s Telegram newspaper reported.” (United Press International, May 29, 2009).

“All of us need to think of our citizenship in terms of what we can do in our communities and halfway around the world,” he said.  “The truth is, cynicism and pessimism is an excuse to do nothing.”

Clinton gets around.  He later flew to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where his address was a copy of the St. John’s address in its call for activism in such areas as AIDS and other disease prevention, poverty and inequality.

Clinton, less busy than his wife now in the Obama administration, is one of the chief disciples out on the public stage shilling communitarism.

According to the Washington Post, Clinton’s public speaking engagements are “lucrative”, earning him about $10 million in 2006, 80% of which was donated to his charitable foundation.

No matter how they spin it, communitarism is not based on altruism.  It is social activism with a new name and its message is being spread world wide.

The best anecdote for curbing the spread of communitarism is the Anti Communitarian League (ACL), who at the end of the year sent out this message: “After centuries of dialectical conflicts between opposing social, economic. political and religious theories, the world is being rebuilt under an entirely new system of government.  It’s called Communitarianism.

“The merger of ideologies is advancing rapidly across the globe.  Communitarians on both “sides” of the debates insist the world is facing a global crisis.  Both sides agree a stronger world government is the only way to save mankind.  All sides believe the State should be our new god.  Besides the various concepts of god involved in this complex merger, everyone loosely agrees the Earth should be the one true established State religion (The Earth Charter).”

The Earth Charter, as CFP readers may recall was devised by UN Poster Boy and one time Chinese auto industry business partner with George Soros, Maurice Strong and former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev, who offer the Earth Charter as a replacement for the Ten Commandments.

The timeline on the advance of worldwide Communitarism is described by the ACL Communitarian league as follows:  “Like the Religious, Conservative Right and the Nationalist Marxist Left, anti-globalist protestors have all been co-opted into helping communitarians rebuild a central global government.”

As ACL warns, “The 2010 Census Map is the new draft for an all Volunteer America”.

imageIt should surprise few that George Washington University professor and former senior advisor to the Carter White House, Amitai Etzioni is Obama’s “communitarianism” guru.  But some of the members caught up knowingly or otherwise in the communitarianism movement, are quite shocking.

Meanwhile, you can resist the clarion call to communitarism by recognizing it for what it is, One World Government under a new name.

Communitarism is as bogus as the messiah in the Oval office.
