The CEO of the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization says it’s outrageous that Nancy Pelosi seems to care more about investigating the detractors of the 9/11 mosque than those who are spearheading the project.
Congresswoman Pelosi (D-California), the Speaker of the House, created quite a stir when during a recent interview on KCBS radio in San Francisco she hinted that the government should investigate those who oppose the construction of the mega-mosque so close to Ground Zero.
“There is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some,” she told KCBS. “And I join those who have called for looking into how…this opposition to the mosque [is] being funded. How is this being ginned up?” It was unclear who those individuals are she says have called for an investigation.
Penny Nance is chief executive officer of Concerned Women for America (CWA). She says the California Democrat has a “tin ear” when it comes to the concerns of the public about this mosque.
“It’s insensitive,” Nance comments. “And the fact that the speaker of the House of the United States does not understand this concern is just absolutely outrageous.”
The CWA leader says Pelosi’s paranoia is completely backwards. “The law-abiding citizens — [the] taxpaying, God-fearing Americans should be the exact opposite target of Nancy Pelosi’s ire,” she remarks.
Nance says if anyone’s funding should be investigated, it is that for imam Feisal Abdul Rauf — the controversial cleric who is heading up the mosque project.
